Student leader says participation pushed her out of her shell and plans NICU nursing job shadow

Xoe Jacobs, class president at Santiam Junior/Senior High School, addressed the board at the Oct. 8 meeting, describing three years of participation in student leadership. Jacobs said being part of leadership "brought her out of her shell," that she wants to help other students have similar experiences, and that she has arranged a job shadow in a neonatal intensive care unit as she considers a career as a NICU nurse. She said she "may also attend the U of O for speech language pathology." Superintendent Krista Nieraeth asked about Jacobs’ future plans and advice for other students; Jacobs advised peers to "do something out of your comfort zone."
The student report was introduced by high school staff member Blane Lazar. The board packet includes the written SJHHS report online; no formal board action was taken on the student report.
