Board hears transportation report on GPS tracking, increased miles and pending Davis route approval

District staff presented the annual transportation goals report, describing safety technology, driver training and service changes that the board said are intended to improve student and driver safety.
"All buses are equipped with GPS and a tracker that monitors harsh braking, cornering, etc.," the presenter said, adding there is a cost to those devices but they are important for safety. Staff also reported that ODE accident-reporting thresholds were updated about six years ago.
The presentation noted total annual miles increased because the district now transports McKinney‑Vento and foster students in‑house rather than using taxis or outside agencies. Staff said driver training has increased in recent years and that the supplemental plan for an additional Davis route was approved by the ODE pupil transportation committee and will be on the Oregon Department of Education's January meeting for final approval.
