Pendleton SD 16 board approves $5.79 million Student Investment Account grant

The Pendleton School District 16 Board of Directors voted unanimously Dec. 8 to approve Student Investment Account (SIA) Grant Agreement No. 39272 for the 2025–27 biennium, totaling $5,788,822.19.
Michelle Jones, Director of Business Services, presented the SIA agreement to the board and described the intended uses: K–3 class size reduction, elementary behavior support specialists, a heritage language teacher, multiple special education positions, a middle‑school counselor and dean of students, an online learning coordinator, and paraprofessionals for ESL, online and general classroom settings. The district will also contract with Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) for a Next Step Navigator and with the Pendleton Police Department for a School Resource Officer.
"The grant amount for 2025‑27 will be $5,788,822.19," Jones said when summarizing the agreement and legal requirement to present the district's Longitudinal Performance Growth Targets to the board. Director Mason Murphy moved to approve the agreement; Director Patrick Gregg seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
The board packet notes the Student Success Act requires school districts to present and approve SIA grant agreements biennially; the approved document will be posted on the district webpage and kept at the district office. No individual roll‑call votes were recorded in the minutes; the minutes record the motion as carried unanimously by the board members present.
