Board hears OSBA proposal for superintendent evaluation survey, delays decision pending cost estimate

Janet Avila-Medina of the Oregon School Boards Association (OSBA) outlined an OSBA-managed superintendent-evaluation process during the board’s Dec. 15 meeting. She described a Targeted Feedback Survey option, said OSBA would manage survey distribution and write the summary report for presentation in executive session, and estimated the OSBA rate at $200 per hour.
Board members raised concerns about the cost and asked whether recently awarded Rural Schools funds might be used to pay for the service. Janet said OSBA could prepare a scope of work and financial estimate for the board to consider. After discussion the board voted to postpone making a decision until the Jan. 26 meeting pending OSBA’s written estimate; Korinn Hockett, Carol Hacherl, Judy Miles and Angel Ashdown voted to wait, and Bob Brown voted against the postponement.
Janet recommended the board not send surveys without OSBA oversight and noted the typical process involves two sessions between OSBA and the board to review results and finalize evaluation materials.
