Designer sketches above-grade skate park for Needham quarry site

Brad Selecky, owner of Pillar Design Studios, walked attendees through a combined concept that blends earlier designs and adapts to the existing ledge. "I'm building this whole park above grade," Selecky said, adding that an ADA ramp will bring users up to the park because concrete must sit above the ledge. He described a centerpiece of technical 'ollie-centric' elements, bookend features and options for granite caps and manual pads.
Selecky emphasized construction and access constraints: work requires space for machines and forms, a gap between ledge and concrete and attention to flow so the park does not become a speed-run facility. Town staff also flagged liability and maintenance considerations and said the town would remove equipment brought in by users that is not part of the installed park.
