Design consultants and town parks staff presented concept plans for an Action Park in Needham that would add five new pickleball courts, a skate park and a pump track planned as a later phase. Cassie Bethany, practice leader at Westin Sampson, told attendees this was the second public meeting and that the team hopes to return with a final concept in September.
Shane Louge, the landscape architect and project manager, described changes to the pickleball layout and a sound study that found noise falls off quickly toward nearby houses. Brad Selecky, who identified himself as owner of Pillar Design Studios, outlined an above-grade skate-park concept that responds to the site's ledge constraints. Parks staff said a total of $3,000,000 is currently allocated to the project and that the team will seek final funding approval at town meeting next spring.
