Wickliffe reduces street-lighting special assessment by roughly 13%

Wickliffe City Council voted July 27 to reduce the city's street-lighting special assessment from 1.15 mils to 1.0 mil, a change the finance director said will lower residents’ assessments by roughly 13%.
Finance Director Matos walked council through a five-year analysis of street-lighting fees and said the lower assessment reflects the city's fund balance and an effort "to not overcharge people, charge them a fair amount, for the street lighting assessments." Matos said the reduction "equates between 53 to $60,000 depending on, when people pay their bills and delinquencies and so forth with that." Council members discussed the potential to lower the assessment further in future years if the fund balance permits and then approved the ordinance on roll call.
The change will reduce expected street-lighting revenue; Matos said the reduction is a start toward easing the charge for residents and that he is open to further decreases in later years.
