Council delays decision on Flux Event Complex liquor license amid outstanding county permits

Wickliffe City Council on July 27 agreed to postpone action on a new D-5 liquor license application for the Flux Event Complex at 28940 Euclid Avenue until county inspections, building permits and the planning commission and Architectural Review Board have reviewed outstanding items.

Council President Gerhardstein introduced the item and said county records show required permits and final inspections are not yet completed. He recommended delaying the license "not to cancel it, but let the building department, the fire department in the county, and the planning commission look at this to make sure that everything was followed before we approve the license." The council instructed staff to seek the one-time 30-day extension that appears on the application's cover letter (deadline Aug. 16) while departments complete their reviews.

At the meeting the city’s planning- and building-related staff confirmed there is no county occupancy permit for the space and that further investigation is needed into which unit the existing county approvals apply to. The council directed the applicant to work with the county contact referred to in the meeting as "Dino" and to provide any missing documentation; if the county and planning records clear up the issues, the license could move forward without another council meeting.

During audience participation, Michael Dews, who gave his address as 28940 Euclid, told the council he has planning-commission drawings from a November 2022 approval that, he said, show parking allocations for each unit. Gerhardstein said staff would pull planning-commission minutes to verify that record. No final action on the license was taken; the item was tabled pending the requested extension and departmental reviews.
