Parent urges Milton-Freewater board to address theft, fighting and vaping at middle school

Megan Hall, a parent and member of the school community, told the Milton-Freewater Unified SD 7 school board that the middle school has seen a noticeable increase in theft, fighting and vaping and urged the district to take action.
"When students don't see clear boundaries or consistent disciplinary follow through, it creates an environment where misbehavior goes unchecked," Hall said during the public comment portion of the meeting. She asked the board and administration to evaluate supervisors and supervision levels throughout the day and offered to provide specific examples to help the district address the concerns.
Hall framed her appeal as a student-safety and learning issue, saying inconsistent enforcement of the student agenda disrupts the learning environment and undermines staff. "Our students deserve a safe, healthy place to learn, and our staff need the support to uphold these expectations," she said.
The chair asked Superintendent Mr. Duff to continue investigating the situations raised by the public commenters and to reach out to them if needed. The board requested the superintendent return with more detailed information and follow-up at a future meeting.
