Doctor Williams explained the staff-development minutes waiver option and recommended initiating an application for the 2025'026 year. He said the waiver provides up to 2,100 minutes that can be counted as professional development in place of student instruction and that the district's calendar currently totals roughly 77,080 minutes — above the 75,600 required — but the waiver could provide contingency time for weather or other disruptions.
The board moved, seconded and approved initiation of the application; trustees discussed uncertainty around eligibility for districts with four-day calendars and noted the TEA has not defined a four-day calendar. The motion passed by voice vote with all in favor.
