District improvement plan: leaders report progress on goals; discipline referrals fall

Dr. Wade presented the district's third-formative review of the District Improvement Plan, reminding trustees that the DIP aligns with the district strategic plan and describing progress across four goals: student outcomes, workplace environment, community engagement and strategic resource management. "We have accomplished 1 strategy and made considerable progress on 14," he said.
He summarized data highlights: discipline referrals were down to 2,149 compared with 2,678 for the same period last year; student attendance was near baseline (about 93.35 percent in March); unit assessments and some interim screeners showed improvement for reading in grades 3'08, though math and English I/II data were mixed. Wade also noted the district finalized memoranda of understanding with Saint Philip's College to launch an early-college high school next year.
Trustees asked clarifying questions about which assessment figures represented unit assessments versus TEA interim results; Wade explained the first figure in the slide showed unit assessments created in-house while the second number, where present, was a TEA interim screener. The review concluded with operational highlights on maintenance work-order completion rates (reported at about 98.69 percent) and plans to present a summit review of the DIP in July or August.
