Superintendent Dr. Gilstrap told the board the district is continuing community outreach ahead of the May 3 bond election and encouraged registered voters to make a plan for the upcoming early voting period. "This is your opportunity as a community to provide guidance to the district and to the board on how we will move forward," he said.
The superintendent summarized outreach to date — two community information meetings at the middle school and North Elementary plus presentations to neighborhood groups — and outlined early voting at the Wilson County Election Office from April 22 through April 29, with Election Day on May 3. He also noted the board will move its regular May meeting to May 12 to canvass results without a special meeting.
Gilstrap framed the bond conversation inside ongoing budget work: the finance committee will meet to update the current budget and prepare multiple FY26 scenarios while awaiting state funding details from the Texas Legislature. He said current enrollment stands at 4,014 and year-to-date student attendance is about 93.26 percent, and that the district must adopt a July 1 fiscal-year budget by June 30.
Board members asked procedural questions about the upcoming canvass and voting logistics; Gilstrap reminded trustees about superintendent-evaluation materials distributed at the table and asked that packets be returned by April 25. The board took no further action on the bond at the meeting; outreach and early-voting logistics remain the immediate next steps.
