County staff responding at the meeting said the updates are being driven by technical mapping standards and broader regional requirements. The staff member leading the presentation described the work as part of a phased mapping effort and said data must meet interoperability standards used by state and federal 9-1-1 programs. "I have a meeting with Google," the presenter said, adding that staff recently obtained a dedicated Google engineer and are preparing data in the format Google requires so consumer maps reflect official changes.
