Texas General Land Office outlines homeowner assistance and reimbursement for 2024 disasters

"Of that money, 244,000,000 is set aside for the homeowners assistance program to repair and reconstruct, owner occupied single family homes, and 43,000,000 is for the homeowners reimbursement program," the GLO representative said. She explained eligible applicants must have been primary residents at the time of the disaster, be current on mortgage and property tax obligations, and that SAVE eligibility verification is used.
The speaker described eligible expenses and caps: temporary relocation assistance up to $7,000; reimbursement caps ranging by dwelling type (examples cited of up to approximately $75,000 for stick‑built homes and up to $50,000 for manufactured homes), and noted that reimbursement can cover verified out‑of‑pocket disaster repairs and certain fees. The office is providing local outreach through the Kaufman satellite and Denton locations and will accept appointments at regional offices and libraries.
Court members had no substantive questions and noted the county’s long‑term recovery committee already had some of the information out to residents. The GLO representative encouraged residents to contact the local office or the Kaufman satellite for assistance.
