Finance director outlines timeline to publish proposed 2026–27 budget and hold May hearing

Director of Finance Devin Collins briefed the board on the 2026–27 budget calendar and required public-notice steps during the Jan. 26 work session.
Collins said the district intends to publish the proposed budget on April 22, 2026 and hold a public budget hearing in May. "As of right now, we want to publish the budget on April 22nd, 2026, and have the budget hearing in May," Collins said. He noted the May board meeting falls on a holiday and the board agreed to re-check the calendar as the hearing approaches.
Collins also confirmed the budget committee currently has three members, which meets the statutory requirement; Director Lisa Reeser asked whether the district needs additional budget committee members, and Superintendent Nicole Albisu suggested recruiting from the district's equity committee if necessary. The district said it will post notice of the budget hearing on the website and send the announcement to the Argus Observer.
No formal adoption or hearing was held at the work session; Collins described next steps for public notice and possible additional hearings if committee or board changes require revision to the proposed budget.
