The Ontario School District 8C Board of Directors on Jan. 26 reviewed a proposal for an overnight field trip for Talented and Gifted (TAG) students to Eastern Oregon University (EOU).
TAG Coordinator Val Reynolds told the board the trip is intended to give students exposure to college life, scholarship and financial aid information and to create a goal for students to aim for in high school. "This trip will be for 25 students, and there will be two adults on the trip to supervise," Reynolds said. Superintendent Nicole Albisu added that the district forwards overnight or longer trips to the Board for approval.
Reynolds described the visit as an enrichment opportunity that the district hopes to repeat in future years so students become comfortable in new learning environments and can share information with their families. Chair Bret Uptmor told the board the request will be placed on the regular-session agenda for a formal vote.
If approved in the regular session, the district said it would proceed with planning and parent notification; the work session did not include a vote or details on trip dates, transportation providers or estimated costs.
