Richardson ISD board authorizes administration to publish notice, negotiate sale of two properties

The Richardson ISD Board of Trustees voted 4-0 on Sept. 26 to authorize district administration to publish a required legal notice and to negotiate and enter into contracts to sell two district-owned properties at 60610 and 616 South Sherman Street, board President Chris Poteet said at a called meeting.

A Richardson ISD staff member told trustees the recommendation is part of "Project Right Size," an effort to identify excess building assets and reduce holdings that the district no longer needs. The staff member said the district is adopting a deficit budget and that proceeds from identified property sales would help "support our fund balance," and recommended the board authorize publication under Local Government Code section 272.001 and permit administration to negotiate sales, as set out in the meeting resolution.

The board placed and seconded a motion to provide the requested authority; President Poteet called for public comment and heard none. "The motion passes 4 to 0," Poteet said as the board recorded the vote. With the authorization, district staff may publish the statutorily required notice and proceed with negotiations and contract discussions for the two listed properties. The motion did not specify sale prices, buyers, or closing timelines.

The meeting lasted roughly two minutes and was adjourned at 12:04 p.m. The board did not ask for additional staff reports or schedule follow-up public hearings on the specific properties during this brief called meeting.
