The Gresham‑Barlow School District board voted unanimously on Feb. 20 to set its first 2026 budget committee meeting for April 29 and the second for May 13 (Motion 64; maker: Blake Petersen; second: Brenna Puderbaugh; vote 6-0). The motion implements the district's proposed schedule as staff prepare detailed staffing and scenario materials for the committee.
Board members discussed three timing options during the budget update: keep current dates; push dates back two weeks (which would delay the budget hearing); or push dates and forgo a TSCC review this year. Several members expressed support for Option 3 (postpone and not have a TSCC review) as a practical way to preserve calendar flexibility while providing more time to finalize staffing notifications and community engagement.
District staff said they intend to be as precise as possible with staffing numbers when returning to the committee and that March 16 is the date notices go out for staff planning to return; employees have until April 15 to respond to assignments. The board did not take a final vote on any RIF authorization at the meeting.
