The Richardson ISD Board of Trustees voted 5–0 to adopt the district’s 2024–25 student code of conduct after a staff presentation explaining modest revisions meant to clarify the appeals process and embed the district’s code of civility.
Dr. Givens and Joe Maniscalco described how the updated language emphasizes the district’s expectations (safe, respectful, responsible) and aims to make appeals procedures more straightforward for parents. Dr. Givens said the district has moved to the TASB model code “which really has streamlined the focus,” and that principals and student services staff will support parents with accessible copies posted online and campus copies for families.
Trustees asked how the district will ensure consistent application across campuses and how parents and principals will be trained. Staff said the code will be reinforced through principal training, six‑week interim assessments, regular communications and professional learning so that classroom practices and disciplinary responses are consistent. Trustee Timmy highlighted administrator norming and training to avoid inconsistency; staff responded they use lunch‑and‑learns, principal meetings, and monitoring to promote alignment.
The board moved and seconded the motion and approved the code by voice vote (recorded as 5–0). Staff said implementation will include monitoring, documenting appeals, and an annual review cycle to surface items that may need refinement.
