Taft ISD board approves finances and course guides, hears high‑school construction update, declines daily prayer measure

The Taft Independent School District Board of Trustees met Jan. 20, 2026, in the Taft High School library. The board approved the district’s Annual Financial Report for 2024–2025 and unanimously adopted course-selection guides for Taft High School and Ricardo L. Treviño Junior High for the 2026–27 school year.
During the meeting, project representatives for the new Taft High School provided a construction update, including a scheduled first concrete pour on Jan. 23, 2026, and an estimated second pour Feb. 10–14, 2026. The board was told the concession-stand completion is expected in roughly two months; original completion had been targeted for Feb. 12, 2026.
Trustees considered a proposal related to Senate Bill 11 that would have adopted a daily period of prayer and reading of a religious text. The board voted to decline that adoption in a 7–0 vote. Board members also approved the Order and Notice of General Election for other political subdivisions to be held May 2, 2026.
The meeting opened at 7:00 p.m., included the Greyhound Spotlight recognition of trustees, and adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
