Board approves $3,000/month lease for community transition program at United Methodist Church

Laura Beville, pastor at the United Methodist Church, told the board the congregation has welcomed the partnership, described building accessibility improvements made for students and said the congregation has hosted program-related community events such as a prom for individuals with disabilities. "This partnership has also inspired our trustees to make some meaningful changes to our building," Beville said, noting widened doors and automatic lights installed to improve accessibility.
Board members moved and seconded approval of the lease; a roll-call vote recorded 'Yes' from Aaron, Josh, Jennifer and Phil and the motion passed. Supporters said space is scarce in Silverton and highlighted the program's proximity to job sites and the value of local partnerships for students with disabilities.
