Board considers bringing nonvoting student representatives to meetings

The board discussed reintroducing a student representative role at board meetings to provide student perspective. The chair described a model with one or two students; they would not participate in executive sessions or vote, but could be interviewed and give updates to the board.
Board members suggested selection methods including interviews or elections at schools, and several asked to review sample policies from other districts (OSBA samples were mentioned). The board agreed there is interest and will examine sample policies and mechanisms for selection before making any final decision.
