City Manager Mariana Birch summarized the item, saying the contract would allow the city to "repair sidewalk locations at 15,000 locations in the city," on top of about 9,000 repairs completed in recent years. Public commenter Matt Montero told the council "it's a brilliant idea" and urged staff to prioritize the most egregious cases that create accessibility barriers for people who use walkers or mobility devices.
Council members praised staff for negotiating economies of scale, noted the program is scheduled to complete in roughly a year, and moved the consent calendar item; the consent calendar passed with the stated abstention on item 6.7.
