"That's a really good question," Eric Hansen replied, noting the pond appears to have been treated in the past and may already be somewhat impaired. He recommended maintaining a vegetative buffer between treated areas and the water and selecting herbicides with lower mobility to reduce the risk of translocation.
Anne and others said protecting pond water should be a planning priority and suggested including buffer measures and erosion-control products in the grant application and outreach materials.
