Pitman council: Lipari Landfill has been remediated and delisted by NJDEP

Councilman Uyehara told the council that the Lipari Landfill has been remediated sufficiently to be delisted by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. "This is a cause to celebrate as it means it will no longer be one of the most contaminated sites in the country," Uyehara said, and he said the Borough would publicize a celebration planned for early October.
Mayor Razze expressed concern that delisting could reduce attention to ongoing maintenance, but reported that Pitman Environmental Commission Chairman Bob Holwitt confirmed with NJDEP that the current protective maintenance regime would remain in place. Council members framed the news as a milestone while stressing continued monitoring of the site and the lake area.
