Council reviews proposed Fire Department ordinance as chief warns of OSHA paperwork burden on volunteers

Councilwoman Milward presented a proposed Fire Ordinance submitted by the Board of Fire Engineers and introduced Borough Chief Carl Ennis, who attended to answer questions. Chief Ennis told Council that recently proposed Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recordkeeping requirements would create extensive paperwork and be difficult for volunteer departments to accomplish without additional accommodations; he said volunteer departments are advocating for separate requirements for volunteer and paid departments.
Borough Solicitor Vigilante offered suggested language edits to clarify parts of the ordinance. Mayor Razze asked councilmembers to provide feedback to Chief Ennis before the next Board of Fire Engineers meeting on August 20 so the ordinance can be refined. No formal action was taken at the work session; the ordinance review will continue.
