Pitman receives ANJEC grant for 'Hitting for Habitat' program at Alcyon Park

The Pitman Environmental Commission has been awarded a 2024 ANJEC grant to launch "Hitting for Habitat," a program using youth baseball and softball teams to raise funds and awareness for native-plant gardens at Alcyon Park.
Councilwoman Milward described the program, saying teams will play to fund installation of a biodiverse community garden and participants will receive a tee shirt made of plant seed packets with directions for a grow competition running April through August; winners in August will receive prizes such as a new bat. Francesca Mundrick will lead the initiative for the commission.
The program pairs community recreation with native-plant restoration and includes an at-home component encouraging wider resident participation in creating pollinator-friendly habitat.
