Resident urges creation of North Caldwell Environmental Commission; council asks counsel on statutory basis

At the Jan. 13 conference meeting, resident Steve Papageorge "requested the consideration of an ordinance to establish said commission," presenting the purpose, intent, membership, function and goals of a proposed Environmental Commission for North Caldwell. The council credited his preparation and said counsel would advise on the statutory framework.
Borough Counsel Jarrid Kantor explained there is an enabling statutory basis for an environmental advisory board and confirmed that one member must be a member of the Planning Board; he also said terms should be set by resolution and staggered at the start. The item was presented as a discussion point and the Council did not vote on establishing the commission during this meeting.
