Live survey at Old Lyme workshop shows split on more housing, strong support for easier ADUs

Consultant Francisco Gomes ran an interactive clicker survey and reported both the device results and an existing online survey with more than 600 responses. The live results showed that about 60% of attendees had lived in Old Lyme more than 20 years, responses on whether the town needs more dwelling units were evenly split, and support for loosening accessory dwelling unit regulations was notably high.
"This survey is not scientific," Gomes said, adding that the clicker exercise was intended to "get you thinking about housing and your residential zoning." He reported specific live tallies during the presentation: roughly 60% reported living in town more than 20 years, ADU support climbed to about 69% yes, and a question about mixed-use developments in commercial zones drew a 53% no response.
