Sunnyvale ISD board adopts local resolution on SB 11; declines generic state resolution

The Sunnyvale I.S.D. Board took two separate votes related to Senate Bill 11 on Jan. 29, 2026. The adopted Sunnyvale ISD resolution affirms that "Sunnyvale ISD currently conducts a moment of silence every day on each campus" and references Texas Education Code §25.901 and §25.082(d) concerning students’ ability to pray or observe a period of silence. The district resolution states the board's commitment "to cultivating and maintaining a respectful school environment for students and teachers of any or no religious background" and explicitly votes against adopting a state-organized prayer policy as contemplated by S.B. 11 (89th Legislature).
