Council approves NJEDA Brownfield grant application to study three sites on Riverview Ave.

Administrator Vernon Marino asked the governing body to approve submission of a Brownfield grant application to the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) to fund preliminary assessment and site investigation for three Brownfield sites on Riverview Ave. Marino said the $1,500 application will assist the Borough with mandated DEP evaluations needed before properties can be sold.
Council President Thomas moved and Councilman Singleton seconded a motion to adopt Resolution R.25.108 authorizing the grant application; the roll call vote was Aye from Thomas, Armistead, Evans, Singleton and Turner; Councilman Holloway was absent. Marino described the grant as a step to avoid more costly DEP compliance obligations prior to sale.
Why it matters: preliminary assessments and site investigations can clarify contamination liabilities and remediation needs before property transfers and can affect saleability and cleanup costs. Council approved the application and directed staff to proceed with the NJEDA process.
