Gottheimer opened with a wide-ranging address about civic service and local schools before administering the oath. “For those who don't know me, I'm Congressman Josh Gottheimer,” he said, then praised the inductees' community service and volunteer work. After describing Michaels' local leadership and business background, Gottheimer administered the oath to Michaels. Later he introduced Jackson’s record of volunteer work and administered her oath; Jackson recited the oath, saying, “I, Jennifer Jackson, do solemnly swear…,” and accepted congratulations from officials and residents.
The ceremony included remarks from Bergen County representatives who presented commendations. The mayor encouraged family members to join inductees for a photograph; county and state officials in attendance applauded the new council configuration. The swearing-in was immediately followed by organizational business and appointments during the reorganization meeting.
