South Umpqua to pilot new SEL curriculum; recommendation expected by January

Superintendent Bare told the board the district is preparing an SEL curriculum adoption because the current program, adopted in spring 2023, does not meet new state standards. "Since then, the state has adopted new standards and the current curriculum does not meet the standards," Bare said, and the district is piloting a replacement at Coffenberry.
District staff said Emily Veale will coordinate the pilot with support from Ryan Savage and that the adoption process will follow board policy; a recommendation is expected by January. Board members had no questions during the update.
