Superintendent Bare told the South Umpqua School District Board on Aug. 6 that the district was awarded a Comprehensive Literacy State Development grant totaling $750,000 over four years. "The district will receive $750,000 over the next four years," Bare said, adding that the funding will focus on reading and professional development for coaches.
District materials in the meeting record break the award into $350,000 in the first year and $150,000 in each of the next three years. Board members heard that the grant is intended to strengthen reading instruction districtwide; Superintendent Bare said staff will develop specific plans for how the funds will be used and report back as part of the district's regular updates.
