District preparing equity advisory committee to meet state deadline

The Agency official told trustees the district will develop and implement an equity advisory committee as outlined by the Oregon Department of Education, noting the state requires districts to have such a committee by Sept. 15. "And then all districts by September 15 are required to have an equity advisory committee to advise the board," the official said, and added that seven people have already filled out interest forms, including staff, parents and a student candidate.
Trustees discussed target membership size and composition; staff suggested between eight and ten members and said they would like more student representation. Board members agreed staff will recruit additional members and will present the committee structure and audit findings to the full board at an upcoming meeting.
