Seaside student Jantra Lee urges girls to see themselves in leadership

Lee traced the career of Diana Simpson, whom she described as "a trailblazer who shattered stereotypes," and said Simpson’s persistence inspired her own goals in a male-dominated field. Board members praised Lee’s speech and asked about her contact with Simpson and her extracurricular leadership, noting her roles in the natural-resources club and FBLA. The superintendent and trustees told Lee they were proud of her and encouraged her as she heads into her senior year.
The appearance was part of a longer recognition segment in which the board spotlighted student leadership and upcoming student representation: the district also announced that Ellie Crater will join as the student representative at the July meeting.
