Elementary administrators outline 'Student Success' behavior rooms

Elementary administrators Rita Hepper, Jennifer Witt and Renee Criss presented an update on a planned behavior program the district will refer to as "Student Success rooms." The administrators described the goal as targeted in-school supports to address behavior and improve learning environments.
Board member Katie Bruner asked whether grant funding might be available to meet budget requests for the program. Stearns Elementary teacher Emma Tibay spoke in public comment in support of the behavior program and described practices from Finland (looping classes and brief hourly outside recess) she said had helped curb behavior issues.
The presentation was informational; no formal motion or budget appropriation was made during the meeting. Superintendent Glen Szymoniak and staff will continue working on details, and the program concept will be incorporated into upcoming budget discussions.
