City department staff reported on upcoming recreation and community programs that serve families and seniors in San Fernando.
The staff presentation listed seasonal and recurring programs: Tiny Tykes Soccer League (ages 3–6) beginning in August at Lane Park; karate classes at Las Palmas Park; adult basketball and fitness classes; open gym pickleball; senior classes (Zumba Gold, chair yoga) and free vision and hearing screenings for children ages 0–5. Staff said pool hours at the San Fernando Regional Pool allow free swims Monday–Saturday from 12:30–4 p.m. and noted Las Palmas Park and Recreation Park function as cooling centers when the high temperature reaches 95 degrees.
Staff also highlighted community resources including free fresh produce distribution at 1002 Mott Street, the conclusion of summer kids' meals next week at Rec Park, and a senior food-kit distribution on Aug. 3 for residents 50 and older. Registration information and program fees were provided; staff encouraged residents to download the "My San Fernando" app and to check the city's new website for details.
