Representatives from Metro East Web Academy presented their annual report to the board, saying MEWA serves 1,058 students and that 494 of those are associated with Gresham-Barlow (including 140 students in special education, 92 English‑language learners, and 98 students with 504 plans). MEWA noted a mobility rate of 52 percent and said the school is examining why students who enroll mid-year—particularly in 10th and 11th grades—earn fewer credits than those who enroll earlier.
MEWA reported a drop in their four‑year graduation cohort from 57 percent to 48 percent year over year and attributed some of the decline to lower early‑college participation. Financially, MEWA said it added $1.162 million to its ending fund balance and currently holds $6.8 million in cash on hand—equivalent to 306 days of operation—and that the amount required by a loan agreement is $1.3 million (60 days). Board members asked follow-up questions about participation rates, re‑engagement strategies for mobile students, and plans to host graduation at Mt. Hood Community College to increase attendance.
