Board to review Amplify CKLA for K–5 literacy; 30‑day public review set before April vote

Board member Mrs. Ryan presented details of the K–5 literacy adoption process and said the district's team of teachers and the instruction office voted in February to bring Amplify CKLA forward for a 30‑day review with a planned vote in April. She said the curriculum is project‑based, weaves social studies and science into reading selections, and aims to build background knowledge to support comprehension. "This is also, right now the number 1 approved literacy curriculum from MDE," Mrs. Ryan said.
Mrs. Ryan described implementation expectations: 120 minutes per day of literacy instruction for K–2 and 90–120 minutes for grades 3–5, and at least 30 minutes of independent reading time. She outlined ancillary components the adoption includes—Amplify Boost Reading (an adaptive practice tool families can use at home) and an assessment suite (Amplified Class DIBELS) for progress monitoring. She said a large portion of the six‑year contract would be covered by the district's '35 ms grant,' and board members asked clarifying questions about replacement of existing units and handwriting/cursive instruction. The district provided demo accounts and program guides for board and staff review during the 30‑day period.
