Van ISD trustees approve 2025 tax levy, policy updates and appraisal-district ballots

At its Nov. 17 meeting, the Van ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2025 tax roll levy for Smith and Van Zandt counties, adopted a TASB Local Policy Update (with exceptions), designated TPIA nonbusiness days and authorized appraisal-district ballots for VZCAD and HCAD.
Van ISD Board President Lesley Goode presided over a Nov. 17 regular meeting in which trustees approved a package of governance actions, including the district’s 2025 tax roll levy for Smith County and Van Zandt County.
The board voted unanimously on several items. The meeting minutes from Oct. 20, 2025 were approved (Motion: Anderson; Second: Hightower). Trustees then approved a resolution to cast votes (562) for candidates to the Van Zandt County Appraisal District board for the 2025–26 term (Motion: S. Johnson; Second: Campbell) and approved a ballot to cast votes (5) for the Henderson County Appraisal District board (Motion: Hightower; Second: Horton). Later the board approved Local Policy Update 126 from TASB Localized Policy Service, excluding DGBA(Local), FNG(Local) and GF(Local) (Motion: Campbell; Second: Anderson).
On finance matters, the trustees adopted a resolution designating nonbusiness days for the Texas Public Information Act (Motion: S. Johnson; Second: Hightower) and approved the district’s 2025 tax roll levy (Motion: Campbell; Second: Horton). Recorded aye votes on all actions were Anderson, Campbell, Goode, Hightower, Horton and S. Johnson; there were no recorded nay votes. The board convened in executive session at 7:07 p.m. and returned to open session, adjourning at 7:19 p.m.
