The Long Prairie City Council voted March 26 to call a public hearing on May 14 at 7 p.m. for a proposed Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District tied to an expansion by ECP Food Warehouse. A company representative described plans to acquire four industrial lots for an 80,000-square-foot warehouse with a six-door dock and office, an estimated $10 million project expected to create roughly 20–30 additional jobs locally.
Council member Lilah Gripne moved to call the hearing and Council member Clint Krueger seconded; the motion was recorded as unanimously approved. The council invited members to tour ECP’s existing facility at their convenience. The hearing will allow the city to receive public input on TIF District No. 1-17 and the schedule for TIF creation presented by Ehlers Financial.
If approved after the hearing and required steps, a TIF district could be used to finance public improvements associated with the expansion and to help redirect truck traffic away from existing site access, per the presentation. The council did not adopt any TIF measures at the March 26 meeting; it only authorized the public hearing date and related notifications.
