WRCCISD signs MOU with Daktronics for stadium scoreboard and sponsorship plan

The West Rusk County Consolidated ISD Board voted to sign a memorandum of understanding with Daktronics to pursue purchase and sponsorship options for a new stadium scoreboard.
Carson Davis of Daktronics described the company's school and stadium installations and offered a proposed MOU under which Daktronics would assist the district with sponsor recruitment and a five-year payment plan. Athletic Director Rafe Mata and district staff supported the approach, noting the present scoreboard is roughly 15 years old and that student involvement with the scoreboard software could provide valuable career and CTE experience.
Director of Business Operations Mindee Mata told trustees the district "does not have $230,000-$300,000 in the budget for a scoreboard," and the Daktronics lease/sponsorship option was presented as a way to spread cost and find third-party funding. During discussion "Coach Clark stated that the sound no longer works on the existing scoreboard" and described speaker failures leaving only two tweeters operational.
Trustee Matt Eastwood moved to sign the MOU with Daktronics; the motion was seconded by Iris Hammontree and passed unanimously with those present. The motion authorizes staff to execute the MOU and pursue the sponsor-assisted financing path; the board did not commit to a specific vendor purchase amount at the meeting.
