Waelder ISD cancels May 2 election after certifying unopposed trustee candidates

The Waelder ISD Board approved a Notice of General Election for May 2, 2026, certified unopposed candidates and approved an Order of Cancellation for that election during the Feb. 16 regular meeting. Superintendent Dr. Ron Lilie presented the items; Trustee Troy Sullivan moved to approve the notice and certification items and the order of cancellation, all motions seconded by Avery Williams and approved unanimously.
The board did not list the names of the certified unopposed candidates in the minutes. The order of cancellation means the scheduled May 2 election will not go forward because the relevant contests had no opposing candidates, and the board will proceed with swearing in or seating as allowed by statute and district policy.
