Waelder ISD approves security gates, safety training and names construction trades building

The Waelder ISD Board approved several safety and facilities actions at its Feb. 16 regular meeting. The board unanimously approved a $20,465 quote from Guardian Safe and Lock to install perimeter gate access control systems on district property. The district also approved a second required school guardian training (date to be determined).
Trustees unanimously approved naming the Construction Trades Building the Johnny Hellums Construction Trades Education Center. Superintendent Dr. Ron Lilie additionally reported progress on the Student Center construction, the district’s electric bus program and a plan to retrofit buses with three-point seat belts as part of ongoing maintenance and safety improvements.
