The mayor called for nominations; votes on Thomas’s nomination were Yes: Councilwoman Evans, Councilman Singleton, Councilman Thomas; No: Councilman Holloway, Councilwoman Turner, resulting in Thomas’s election.
The result followed competing nominations from multiple council members and a brief procedural exchange. Councilman Thomas thanked Councilwoman Turner "for her hard work last year, and thanked those for their support," according to the meeting record. The mayor also said council committee assignments will remain unchanged pending review with the borough administrator and discussion at the February meeting.
The election is one of the first formal actions of the new council; it was followed by the adoption of initial fiscal resolutions on the meeting agenda. The council formally adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
