Director of School and Student Services Chris Conner and High School Interim Principal Latoyia Pea described the plan as part of broader efforts to enhance campus safety. Conner framed the procurement as a means to expand camera coverage across all campuses including the administration building; the agenda language specifies funding from SAFE Cycle 2 Grant monies, the Safety and Security Budget, and the General Fund. Principal Pea also discussed enforcement challenges around student cell-phone use and said random cell-phone sweeps are being implemented to improve compliance with Texas law.
The board motion and supporting discussion focused on improving campus security systems; district staff indicated they would verify vendor bonding and contract terms prior to finalizing the purchase.
