The Board of Selectmen reviewed the TRC Phase 1 evaluation and considered next steps for potential site sampling.
Chair relayed a resident (Rob McCarthy) and building staff recommendation to avoid moving immediately to sampling because completed sampling could trigger entry into a state program. Instead, members favored seeking brownfield grant opportunities to fund additional testing and cleanup if necessary. The chair said she would forward the report to a DECD contact (Chandri) to explore available funding and return with guidance.
Members emphasized fiscal prudence and agreed that grant-funded sampling and remediation would be preferable to committing town funds that might obligate the town to follow-up requirements under state programs. The board directed staff to pursue grant options and to keep the matter under review.
