Turner elected chairman as Washington Borough Land Use Board completes annual reorganization

Andrew Turner was elected chairman of the Washington Borough Land Use Board at the board's annual reorganization meeting on Jan. 12, 2026. Turner presided, read the Open Public Meetings Law notice into the record and led the Pledge of Allegiance. "The requirements of the "Open Public Meetings Law", P.L. 1975, Chapter 231, have been satisfied in that adequate notice of this meeting has been published in the Star Ledger and Daily Record, and posted on the Bulletin Board of the Borough Hall stating the time, place and purpose of the meeting as required by law," Turner said.
The leadership slate was elected by voice and recorded roll call. Marianne VanDeursen was elected vice-chairman (nominated by Turner, seconded by Cox) and Cynthia Valle was elected secretary (nominated by Turner, seconded by VanDeursen). The minutes record the reorganization votes as Ayes: 7; Nayes: 0; Absent: 1. The board also administered oaths of office to members identified as Hofmann (Class IV), Prendergast (Alternate I) and Norris (Alternate II).
The reorganization sets committee assignments and the board's procedural authority for the year; it also confirmed a meeting schedule and open-meeting procedures that will govern public notices and agendas. The board noted the next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 9, 2026 at 7 p.m.
