Staff said the change would not immediately cost the city additional operational funds but would be reflected in the contract going forward.
Councilors asked about medical expense liability if an arrestee requires emergency hospital care. The staff reply stated hospital bills for emergency visits typically go to the individual or the party responsible for care; "If it's something that we did, then we're gonna get a bill," staff said, adding that arrestees are medically cleared prior to jail intake and the county generally bills when it is responsible.
A motion to approve the preliminary agreement was moved and seconded; a roll call recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried. Staff said final contract documents and timing (staff suggested July 1 as an implementation target) would follow.
The council did not adopt a long‑term contract at the meeting; it approved moving the preliminary agreement forward for subsequent formal action.
